As the start was effected, RED ELYSEES, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, RED ELYSEES will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. HIT A HOME RUN shifted in on jumping and bumped GOOD DAYS, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. JOLLY GAINS and AGREE bumped heavily at the start. INDIGENOUS STAR shifted in at the start and bumped WIN FOR CHARITY. From the outside barrier, AMBITIOUS PINS was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Near the 1500 Metres, DASHING DART was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FLYING NOBLE (B Prebble) which shifted in acutely when not quite clear of that horse. B Prebble was severely reprimanded and warned against the practice of permitting his mounts to shift ground too sharply and also advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground. Near the 1450 Metres, FRESH POWER was hampered when crowded for room between DASHING DART and WIN FOR CHARITY (C Y Ho) which shifted in when not properly clear. C Y Ho was severely reprimanded and told to exercise more care. Passing the 1400 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING and GOOD DAYS were badly crowded for room inside DASHING DART which got its head on the side and shifted in away from WIN FOR CHARITY, despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, AGREE also became unbalanced when bumped by ELECTRIC LIGHTNING. For some distance after the 1300 Metres, INDIGENOUS STAR travelled keenly, got its head on the side and lay out when awkwardly placed behind GOOD DAYS. After the 1100 Metres, DASHING DART commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of WIN FOR CHARITY. Then after the 1000 Metres, DASHING DART shifted out when being checked away from the heels of WIN FOR CHARITY as it proved very difficult to settle. DASHING DART continued to travel keenly throughout the middle stages of the race. Rounding the Home Turn, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING and GOOD DAYS raced tight. AMBITIOUS PINS and AGREE had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 350 Metres, FRESH POWER was brushed by ENJOY LIFE which improved into tight running between that horse and DASHING DART. FRESH POWER then shifted out, resulting in ELECTRIC LIGHTNING being taken out onto GOOD DAYS which was inconvenienced. Over the concluding stages, INDIGENOUS STAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOOD DAYS which shifted out. For this reason, INDIGENOUS STAR was not able to be ridden out all the way to the winning post. For the majority of the race, FRESH POWER travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of AGREE and FLYING NOBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY GAINS immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GAINS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. INDIGENOUS STAR, ENJOY LIFE and GOOD DAYS were sent for sampling.
