As the start was effected, VOLITATION (S Clipperton), which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground, turned its head to the right and as a consequence missed the start. Jockey Clipperton reported following the race that after missing the start, VOLITATION, which was racing on the All Weather surface for the first time today, appeared uncomfortable racing back in the field and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of VOLITATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GLORIOUS PARTNERS shifted out at the start and made contact with ROMAN IMPERO.
On jumping, WILLIE WAY and LET US WIN were crowded for room between GAMECHANGERS which shifted in and DEJA VU which was taken out by DOLLAR REWARD.
From the outside barrier, SILVERFIELD was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
On the first turn near the 1500 Metres, VOLITATION was steadied away from the heels of LET US WIN which shifted in.
Near the 1400 Metres, DEJA VU got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of DOLLAR REWARD.
Despite being hard ridden in the early and middle stages, SKY KING became detached from the field and finished distanced. A veterinary inspection of SKY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the third occasion that SKY KING had become detached from the field in its four race starts this season, the Stewards ruled that that horse must perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. Trainer C Fownes however advised the Stewards that it is his intention to recommend to the owners of SKY KING that the horse be retired.
Upon entering the Back Straight near the 1100 Metres, BULLISH GLORY was momentarily crowded for room inside VOLITATION which shifted in slightly.
Just prior to the finishing line, T Berry, the rider of LET US WIN, was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount which shifted in and raced tight against DOLLAR REWARD.
A veterinary inspection of DEJA VU immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DEJA VU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUNNY WIN and ROMAN IMPERO were sent for sampling.
