The start was delayed when SURE SUPREME proved reluctant to proceed to the Start. HONG KONG’S FOLKS began awkwardly. FLYING POWER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, BIG BULLY was bumped by MY WINNER which shifted in. Also shortly after the start, SHOWING CHARACTER shifted in when being steadied to obtain cover and in doing so inconvenienced UNIVERSAL GO GO. From wide barriers, EMPIRE OF PATCH and GOLDEN GENERAL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. B Prebble (ALL YOU NEED) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of UNIVERSAL GO GO, causing that horse to be taken in across the rightful running of MY WINNER which was severely checked. B Prebble was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 20 May 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 24 May 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, B Prebble was fined $15,000. Passing the 600 Metres, BIG BULLY, which was racing tight inside EMPIRE OF PATCH, gave ground when reluctant to hold its position. FLYING POWER, which was following and racing greenly, got its head up and shifted out abruptly when checked away from the heels of BIG BULLY. Passing the 300 Metres, MIGHTY MAVERICK was shifted out away from MY WINNER which shifted out under pressure. Passing the 100 Metres, EMPIRE OF PATCH was awkwardly placed inside MY WINNER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MIGHTY MAVERICK. Throughout the race, ALL YOU NEED travelled wide and without cover. After the race, it was reported that MIGHTY MAVERICK had sustained a small cut to the outside of the left front cannon. MIGHTY MAVERICK, ALL YOU NEED and VERY SWEET ORANGE were sent for sampling.
