After being loaded into the barriers, CALIFORNIA ARCHER became fractious, kicked out and got its left hind leg caught over the back gates. CALIFORNIA ARCHER was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, CALIFORNIA ARCHER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA ARCHER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MARYKNOLL VICTORY was slow to begin. MR WEALTH began awkwardly. SWEETIE BARLEY began awkwardly and shortly after the start bumped the hindquarters of ENCORE BOY. Shortly after the start, BEAUTY ENERGY was bumped by MASSIVE POCKET which shifted out. Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, C P POWER failed to muster speed. C P POWER lost its left front plate in the early stages. In the early stages, EVERBRAVE was shifted across behind runners from the outside barrier, however, for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover and then making the turn after the 700 Metres got its head on the side and lay out. After the 800 Metres, BEAUTY ENERGY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up for some distance when being checked away from the heels of MR WEALTH. Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, MARYKNOLL VICTORY got its head on the side and lay out. Throughout the race, RED MARVEL travelled wide and without cover. ENCORE BOY and MASSIVE POCKET were sent for sampling.
