Steward Report Predict Pace Map
GREAT PROFIT was withdrawn on 30.8.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (thickened left fore tendon). Before being allowed to race again, GREAT PROFIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HANG’S DECISION shifted out at the start and hampered NOBLE STEED. From a wide barrier, HANG’S DECISION was then steadied and shifted across behind runners. In the early stages, ROUNDABOUT got its head up for some distance when being steadied to obtain cover. Passing the 800 Metres, VILLA FIONN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NOBLE STEED (C Schofield) which shifted in when not quite clear. C Schofield was advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 300 Metres, GENERAL SHERMAN was shifted to the inside of GOD OF DRAGON after being disappointed for running outside that horse and inside VILLA FIONN. Passing the 100 Metres, NOBLE STEED, which was giving ground, was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of GENERAL SHERMAN (C Y Ho) which shifted out under pressure. C Y Ho was fined $5,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse’s right hindquarters. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of VILLA FIONN, Z Purton stated that as there did not appear to be much pace engaged in this race, he was asked to ride the horse closer to the speed than it had been in its three previous starts in Hong Kong. He said after riding VILLA FIONN along for a short distance in the early stages, the horse was able to obtain a forward position and travelled well in the early and middle stages. He said however that after the 500 Metres VILLA FIONN came under heavy pressure and commenced to give ground abruptly despite being vigorously ridden. He added the manner in which VILLA FIONN gave ground in the early part of the Straight caused him some concern and after continuing to ride the horse along until the 300 Metres, he then eased it down as he felt that something may have been amiss with the horse. He said after the race VILLA FIONN felt comfortable in its action and as a subsequent veterinary inspection had not been able to identify any issue with the horse, he felt that perhaps VILLA FIONN lacks maturity at this stage of its career and may not have appreciated being ridden in a more forward position today. A veterinary inspection of VILLA FIONN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of VILLA FIONN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VILLA FIONN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, C Murray (GOD OF DRAGON) reported that his saddle shifted back slightly at the start, causing him some inconvenience during the race. Also after the race, C Schofield reported that, in his opinion, NOBLE STEED’s run ended inside the final 200 Metres and this was the reason for the horse giving ground over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE STEED, HANG’S DECISION and GENERAL SHERMAN were sent for sampling.
