KIRAM began awkwardly and lost ground. MR WEALTH began only fairly. From wide barriers, KEEN VENTURE and HANG’S DECISION were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1450 Metres, MR WEALTH was momentarily awkwardly placed behind GOLD LAND. After being shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages, VILLA FIONN commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of RACING LUCK approaching the 1400 Metres. When being steadied to obtain cover behind SPIRIT after the 1400 Metres, MCMUNIGAL travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions. Approaching and passing the 1300 Metres, FLASH FAMOUS got its head up when awkwardly placed behind PATRIOT HERO. Passing the 1200 Metres, RACING LUCK was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, FAMOUS WARRIOR and SPIRIT bumped. At the 400 Metres, MCMUNIGAL was brushed by MR WEALTH which shifted to the outside of SPIRIT to obtain clear running. KIRAM, which was following MR WEALTH, was shifted to the inside of that horse in consequence. Approaching the 350 Metres, RACING LUCK was bumped by FLASH FAMOUS and shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed outside the heels of PATRIOT HERO. When questioned, K Teetan stated that he rode BIGWOOD in a trial in the lead up to today’s race and the horse had finished off the trial strongly when shifted to the outside of runners. He said in today’s race he had been following FLASH FAMOUS which came under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres. He said he shifted to the inside of that horse as he was unable to come to its outside due to RACING LUCK being positioned outside FLASH FAMOUS. He said at the entrance to the Straight he improved inside FLASH FAMOUS and shifted out to follow PATRIOT HERO as he anticipated that that horse would quicken and, given that FLASH FAMOUS had been under heavy pressure, he anticipated being able to secure clear running to the outside of PATRIOT HERO. He said however that PATRIOT HERO did not quicken as he anticipated it would and when FLASH FAMOUS maintained its position to the outside of BIGWOOD, this resulted in BIGWOOD being held up for clear running and unable to shift to the outside of PATRIOT HERO until near the 250 Metres. A veterinary inspection of HANG’S DECISION, PATRIOT HERO and FLASH FAMOUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LAND GRANT and FAMOUS WARRIOR were sent for sampling. <2/10/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>PATRIOT HERO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. PATRIOT HERO was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PATRIOT HERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
