TRIUMPH was withdrawn on 11.1.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen mouth). Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RIGHTEOUS MATE began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in SO GENEROUS being hampered when crowded onto MI BLANCO. THE INVINCIBLE shifted out at the start and bumped JOLLY AMBER. POWER MAN was slow to begin. DAZZLE WINNER and SINCERE HORSE bumped heavily at the start, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced. From the outside barrier, YOUNG GLORY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1400 Metres, DAZZLE WINNER was steadied away from the heels of MI BLANCO. After the 1200 Metres, SO GENEROUS was left racing wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, JOLLY AMBER got its head on the side and lay out. S de Sousa (RIGHTEOUS MATE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of DAZZLE WINNER, causing that horse to be hampered and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. S de Sousa was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 30 January 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 3 February 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey de Sousa’s good race riding record. Approaching the 350 Metres, FORTUNE PATROL and INDIGENOUS STAR raced tight as FORTUNE PATROL attempted to improve between INDIGENOUS STAR and SWEET BEAN to obtain clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, MI BLANCO was awkwardly placed outside the heels of INDIGENOUS STAR. After the race, it was noted that SO GENEROUS had blood at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination conducted on SO GENEROUS found its trachea to be clean and accordingly the horse was deemed not to have bled. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that DAZZLE WINNER had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of RIGHTEOUS MATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PROUD SKY and SWEET BEAN were sent for sampling.
