JOYFUL CONTENDER was slow to begin. KING OF MONGOLIA and WHAMPOA STAR bumped at the start. From the outside barriers, GENTRY and ENFOLDING were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1350 Metres, JOYFUL CONTENDER momentarily raced in restricted room inside WHAMPOA STAR which was racing tight inside REMARKABLE. KING’S MAN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 300 Metres, ART OF RAW, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of REMARKABLE (J Moreira) which shifted in. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care. J Moreira (REMARKABLE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KING OF MONGOLIA, causing that horse to be checked away from the heels of REMARKABLE. J Moreira was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 20 February 2019 and to expire on Monday, 25 February 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Moreira’s good race riding record. For the majority of the race, ENFOLDING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of RADIANT BUNNY, Z Purton stated that it had been hoped that the horse would be able to take up a more prominent position but also with cover. He said in order to clear the horses to his inside, he had to make considerable use of RADIANT BUNNY and then was not able to obtain cover as had been hoped. He said RADIANT BUNNY consequently gave ground noticeably in the Straight. The performance of RADIANT BUNNY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RADIANT BUNNY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of RADIANT BUNNY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL CONTENDER and ART OF RAW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD FIT and REMARKABLE were sent for sampling. <4/2/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>RADIANT BUNNY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. RADIANT BUNNY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip in the morning after racing. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, RADIANT BUNNY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. ART OF RAW, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. ART OF RAW was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui in the morning after racing. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ART OF RAW will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
