DUKE WAI began only fairly. WAH MAY PRINCESS shifted out at the start and hampered SHINING ON. NICE KICK and JOLLY CONVERGENCE bumped on jumping. From wide barriers, GOLDEN GLORY and REGENCY GEM were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Rounding the Home Turn, JOLLY CONVERGENCE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHAMPORT. Passing the 300 Metres, WAH MAY PRINCESS raced tight outside SUPER FUN. In the Straight, DEMONS ROCK lay in under pressure and for some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres was awkwardly placed behind NICE KICK. Throughout the race, NICE KICK travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WAH MAY PRINCESS, K Teetan stated that despite being hard ridden for some distance in the early stages WAH MAY PRINCESS did not show as much early speed as ALL GREAT FRIENDS which was drawn to its inside. He said because of this WAY MAY PRINCESS was not able to lead as had been hoped. He said after obtaining a position outside ALL GREAT FRIENDS in the early stages, WAH MAY PRINCESS came off the bit at the 600 Metres and then, despite being ridden along, did not quicken. He said WAH MAY PRINCESS came under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres and then was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of WAH MAY PRINCESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination found the horse to have epiglottic entrapment and also showed a substantial amount of mucus in the its trachea. The performance of WAH MAY PRINCESS, favourite for tonight’s race and which had been successful in its two most recent races, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WAH MAY PRINCESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was reported that SHAMPORT had thumps. WAY MAY PRINCESS, JOLLY CONVERGENCE and LITTLE WISE MAN were sent for sampling. <14/3/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALL GREAT FRIENDS was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, ALL GREAT FRIENDS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination
