BREEDERS’ STAR began awkwardly. COBY OPPA began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CONFUCIUS DAY which became unbalanced. After this, COBY OPPA was ridden along for some distance in order to obtain a more forward position. Shortly after the start, WALDORF was crowded for room between GINTOKI and FIRST RESPONDER, both of which shifted ground. From wide barriers, WALDORF and PRIVATE ROCKET were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. M Chadwick (JOLLY CONVERGENCE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MIGHTY MAVERICK, causing that horse to be taken in onto BREEDERS’ STAR, causing both MIGHTY MAVERICK and BREEDERS’ STAR to be unnecessarily crowded for room and to be hampered. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 12 June 2019 and to expire on Monday, 17 June 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Chadwick’s good race riding record. Passing the 1000 Metres, CONFUCIUS DAY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of POWERMAX which shifted in. Throughout the race, POWERMAX and GINTOKI travelled wide and without cover. After the race, it was reported that JOLLY CONVERGENCE had sustained a minor wound to the outside of the right hind fetlock. A veterinary inspection of BREEDERS’ STAR and COBY OPPA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FIRST RESPONDER, WALDORF and MIGHTY MAVERICK were sent for sampling.
