From wide barriers, DEFINING MOMENT and BEAUTY ENERGY were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, REGENCY BO BO was slow to muster speed. After the 1100 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP raced tight inside REGENCY BO BO which was taken in by CORDYCEPS which shifted in when awkwardly placed behind FLYING VICTORY. Passing the 1000 Metres, REGENCY BO BO shifted out away from the heels of FLYING VICTORY, resulting in CORDYCEPS, which was racing very wide and without cover, being crowded for room inside FENRIR which at this stage when also racing wide and without cover was allowed to improve its position forward of CORDYCEPS. After this, both CORDYCEPS and REGENCY BO BO raced wide and without cover. Approaching the 500 Metres, FLYING VICTORY commenced to shift to the outside of FENRIR to improve into tight running between that horse and REGENCY BO BO. As FLYING VICTORY shifted out, FENRIR got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in FLYING VICTORY being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of FENRIR and shifting out abruptly away from the heels of that horse, resulting in REGENCY BO BO being badly crowded onto CORDYCEPS. When FLYING VICTORY shifted out away from the heels of FENRIR, J Moreira, the rider of FLYING VICTORY, immediately stopped riding and attempted to shift FLYING VICTORY in to relieve the tightening to REGENCY BO BO. Whilst this incident was one of some significance, the Stewards were satisfied that it was as a result of FENRIR laying out and FLYING VICTORY shifting out abruptly away from the heels of FENRIR as a result of that shift. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe that there was any rider error attached to this incident and accordingly no further action was taken. CHARIZARD had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 350 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP was steadied when disappointed for running between STAR MAJESTIC and FENRIR. In this incident, PRECIOUSSHIP was struck across the nose by the whip of N Callan (STAR MAJESTIC). JOLLY CONVERGENCE, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of PRECIOUSSHIP in consequence. PRECIOUSSHIP was then shifted to the outside of FENRIR and near the 200 Metres was again steadied when disappointed for running between FENRIR and FLYING VICTORY. A veterinary inspection of CORDYCEPS and FLYING VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of PRECIOUSSHIP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. REGENCY BO BO, KING OF HEARTS and GREAT TREASURE were sent for sampling.
