ISLAND SHINE began awkwardly. TAILOR MADE began only fairly. GENERAL’S DELIGHT began awkwardly, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of STAR MAJESTIC, resulting in GENERAL’S DELIGHT losing ground. From wide barriers, HONEST WAY, HOLY HEART and POWERMAX were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1100 Metres, SO GLORIOUS travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind ISLAND SHINE. THRILLED travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 600 Metres. Close to the finishing line, ISLAND SHINE raced tight outside STAR MAJESTIC. In the Straight, POWERMAX lay out under pressure. N Callan, the rider of ENDEARING, was warned against the practice of raising his whip arm above the height of his shoulder. A veterinary inspection of GENERAL’S DELIGHT immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL’S DELIGHT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on THRILLED at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THRILLED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GENERAL’S DELIGHT, BEAUTY APPLAUSE and ENDEARING were sent for sampling.
