ON EXCEL STAR was withdrawn on 30.11.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter THE ABRAXAS (H N Wong). WINNER APPROACH, second Standby Declared Starter, was also withdrawn on 30.11.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, ON EXCEL STAR and WINNER APPROACH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MERIDIAN TALENT began awkwardly and bumped the hindquarters of THE ABRAXAS. COPARTNER ERA began awkwardly and stumbled and in doing so shifted in and bumped BRILLIANT PROFIT. From the outside barrier, LEGENDARY HERO was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. COPARTNER ERA made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly. After the 900 Metres, MAJESTIC CONQUEROR commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed behind MIGHTY VALOR. MAJESTIC CONQUEROR continued to travel keenly and near the 700 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of MIGHTY VALOR. When MAJESTIC CONQUEROR shifted back in to resume its position near the 600 Metres, HERO STAR raced tight inside the heels of that horse. Approaching the 600 Metres, BRILLIANT PROFIT got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BETTER CHOICE. After the 500 Metres, MAJESTIC CONQUEROR was shifted out away from the heels of THE ABRAXAS (H N Wong) which shifted to the outside of MIGHTY VALOR to improve. HERO STAR and CALIFORNIA RAD were inconvenienced in consequence. H N Wong was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Over the concluding stages, K C Leung’s (BRILLIANT PROFIT) whip became entangled in the mane when being pulled through into the right hand. A veterinary inspection of MAJESTIC CONQUEROR immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. QUADRUPLE DOUBLE and THE ABRAXAS were sent for sampling.
