Trainer J Moore was fined the sum of $3,000 for presenting TAKE WHAT YOU NEED in the Parade Ring with a parade hood which was not part of its declared gear. WHISKEY NEAT and FORZA ANGEL bumped at the start. INFINITY ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HONEST WAY. INTERSTELLAR lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped by GRADE ONE which shifted out. As the start was effected, FLYING ON THE TURF kicked out behind. From the outside barriers, JADE THEATRE, CALIFORNIA ARGENT and FARHH ABOVE were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start, WHISKEY NEAT got its head up and then became unbalanced passing the 1100 Metres when bumped by FORZA ANGEL which shifted in away from the heels of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. This resulted in WHISKEY NEAT being steadied away from the heels of HONEST WAY. Approaching the 900 Metres, FORZA ANGEL shifted out away from the heels of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED which resulted in BALTIC SUCCESS shifting out away from that horse in consequence and causing inconvenience to WHISKEY NEAT and CALIFORNIA ARGENT which was travelling keenly. For some distance after this, CALIFORNIA ARGENT continued to travel keenly. After this, FORZA ANGEL was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 800 Metres, HARD PROMISE got its head up when momentarily awkwardly placed behind FLYING ON THE TURF. Then approaching the 700 Metres, HARD PROMISE, which was travelling keenly, continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING ON THE TURF. After the 700 Metres, INTERSTELLAR commenced to travel keenly and was steadied away from the heels of GRADE ONE. In the early part of the Straight, GRADE ONE was shifted out a number of horses in an attempt to obtain clear running. However, GRADE ONE was unable to obtain clear running and was held up from approaching the 200 Metres until approaching the 100 Metres. After the 200 Metres, JADE THEATRE was checked in away from the heels of FORZA ANGEL which was giving ground. Approaching the 100 Metres, WHISKEY NEAT was bumped by BALTIC SUCCESS which shifted out when awkwardly placed behind TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. When questioned, G van Niekerk stated that it was intended for BALTIC SUCCESS to be ridden in the lead as the horse had raced well in that position at its most recent start. He said BALTIC SUCCESS was somewhat fractious in the barriers and then did not begin well. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages to make up lost ground, however, after travelling a short distance had to steady away from the heels of GLENEALY GENERALS and because of this it was no longer available to him to continue to ride BALTIC SUCCESS forward in an attempt to lead. He said he therefore steadied BALTIC SUCCESS near the 1100 Metres to obtain cover which he was able to achieve behind FORZA ANGEL near the 900 Metres after having to shift out away from the heels of that horse. He added when racing behind FORZA ANGEL, BALTIC SUCCESS travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse for some distance in the middle stages. FARHH ABOVE and TAKE WHAT YOU NEED were sent for sampling.
