MR ALDAN shifted out at the start, taking LAKESHORE EAGLE out onto SUPER ELEGANCE which was in turn taken in by GLORIOUS LOVER which became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by SUPER ELEGANCE. GLORIOUS LOVER then raced tight between SUPER ELEGANCE and GO BALLISTIC. From a wide barrier, CHARITY GO was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After being ridden along for a short distance after the start from the outside barrier, SMART PATCH was steadied approaching the 1500 Metres to obtain cover. After the 1000 Metres, CHEERFUL LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 500 Metres, CHARITY GO (M Chadwick) was bumped heavily by COT CAMPBELL which was bumped by NUREMBERG which, when improving to the outside of GAMEPLAYER TIMES, was taken out by that horse which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out marginally. In this incident, M Chadwick became badly unbalanced. As the Stewards were satisfied that NUREMBERG had established its position to the outside of GAMEPLAYER TIMES some distance before the incident and that the incident was as a result of GAMEPLAYER TIMES making the turn awkwardly, no further action was taken. SMART PATCH, which was following CHARITY GO, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence. At the entrance to the Straight, GLORIOUS LOVER was awkwardly placed behind LAKESHORE EAGLE. MR ALDAN was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. K Teetan, the rider of LAKESHORE EAGLE, pleaded guilty to being in breach of Stewards’ Instruction 22(3) in that he improperly used his whip down the horse’s shoulder on a number of occasions. In assessing this matter, the Stewards took into consideration that Jockey Teetan had been fined on four occasions for riding in a similar manner. K Teetan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Wednesday, 25 March 2020. Accordingly, he may resume race riding on Thursday, 26 March 2020. The Stewards ruled that this period of suspension be served concurrently with the period of suspension imposed in relation to his ride on WILL POWER in Race 7. Apprentice K H Chan (EARTH TRILOGY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of COBY BA, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken in onto SUPER ELEGANCE, causing that horse to be severely checked. Apprentice Chan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 and to expire on Monday, 30 March 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Chan was fined $30,000. Approaching the 200 Metres, WIND GLIDER was shifted away from the heels of COT CAMPBELL to obtain clear running. Near the 150 Metres, J Moreira (CHEERFUL LEADER) dropped his right rein. Throughout the race, COT CAMPBELL travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that EARTH TRILOGY had bled from both nostrils A veterinary inspection of SUPER ELEGANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHEERFUL LEADER, LAKESHORE EAGLE and SMART PATCH were sent for sampling.
