TAILOR MADE was slow to begin. STARLIGHT began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of BRAVE BABY. After this, from a wide barrier, STARLIGHT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. DOUBLE TAKE and FOR FUN’S SAKE were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, FOR FUN’S SAKE was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 700 Metres, CURLING LUXURY was awkwardly placed behind TRUE LEGEND. After being crossed by COLONEL (G van Niekerk) near the 800 Metres, BRAVE BABY became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse near the 700 Metres and subsequently clipped the heels of COLONEL. HAPPILY FRIENDS, which was following, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BRAVE BABY in consequence. G van Niekerk was told whilst the Stewards accepted that at no stage did he unduly steady COLONEL after obtaining the lead, nonetheless he must do his utmost to ensure that horses ridden by him do not slacken the tempo such that trailing runners are placed in an awkward position. TRUE LEGEND got its head on the side and made the Home Turn awkwardly. A veterinary inspection of HARD PROMISE and BRAVE BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BELUGA and COLONEL were sent for sampling.
