CHIKORITA lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and lost ground.
HANG’S DECISION was slow to begin.
From wide barriers, WHAT A LEGEND and COPARTNER SPIRIT were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along throughout the early and middle stages, HANG’S DECISION raced detached from the field.
Approaching the 700 Metres, CHIKORITA, which was travelling keenly, was steadied when crowded for room inside SMART LEADER (B Shinn) which shifted in when not clear. B Shinn was reprimanded. WHAT A LEGEND, which was following CHIKORITA, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
At the 500 Metres, DANCING FIGHTER made ground to be racing close to the heels of GANESH TALAI which came under pressure. DANCING FIGHTER was consequently checked away from the heels of that horse when unable to shift to the inside of GANESH TALAI due to COPARTNER SPIRIT improving to its inside. GANESH TALAI continued to lose ground and finished tailed out. The performance of GANESH TALAI was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GANESH TALAI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Throughout the race, SMART LEADER travelled wide and without cover.
DOLLAR REWARD was also left racing wide and without cover at the 800 Metres.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that DANCING FIGHTER, which was resuming from a lay-off, was fractious after being loaded into the barriers and was inclined to sit back. He said after missing the start, he was able to obtain a reasonable position near midfield. He said after being checked at the 500 Metres, DANCING FIGHTER finished off the race fairly and whilst the horse’s performance may have appeared disappointing on face value, he felt that both these incidents in the race had contributed to its performance. A veterinary inspection of DANCING FIGHTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DANCING FIGHTER, winner of its last two starts and favourite for tonight’s event, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DANCING FIGHTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of DOLLAR REWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
DANCING FIGHTER, SHOUSON and VERY RICH MAN were sent for sampling.
