On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to MONEYMORE was replaced. OLD HAVANA, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. FORTUNE BUDDY began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between WINNING WARRIOR and HURRICANE HUNTER which shifted out away from SHANGHAI RUSKY. WONDER EXPRESS and JOY MASTER bumped at the start. From wide barriers, DR LUCKY STAR and GOOD CHOICE AHEAD were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 700 Metres, OLD HAVANA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HURRICANE HUNTER. Then passing the 650 Metres, OLD HAVANA was again awkwardly placed when improving into restricted room between HURRICANE HUNTER and GOLDEN CANNON. Rounding the Home Turn, MONEYMORE was bumped by GOLDEN CANNON which shifted out away from the heels of SEIZE THE SPIRIT. GOOD CHOICE AHEAD had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. A Hamelin (LIVERBIRD STAR) dropped his whip passing the 150 Metres. Throughout the race, LIVERBIRD STAR travelled wide and without cover. After the race, K Teetan stated that after having to race wide from an outside barrier, MONEYMORE lay out throughout the middle stages of the race and then in the Straight did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MONEYMORE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HURRICANE HUNTER, WONDER EXPRESS and LIVERBIRD STAR were sent for sampling.
