BULLETPROOF began very awkwardly and lost ground.
THE DRIVE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped REGENCY MASTER.
XIANG LAN QI was steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
From the outside barriers, SO WE JOY and STUNNING IMPACT were shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail shortly after the start.
After the 1400 Metres, KA FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of STAR WIN (Apprentice C L Chau) which shifted in. Apprentice Chau was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Near the 1200 Metres, KA FORTUNE was left racing wide and without cover. As KA FORTUNE was steadied in an attempt to obtain a trailing position with cover, SO WE JOY, which was following, commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted in abruptly, resulting in XIANG LAN QI being hampered and SO WE JOY then being checked when very awkwardly placed close to the heels of KA FORTUNE for a short distance.
After the 700 Metres, ENJOY LIFE (T H So) shifted out away from the heels of STAR WIN and bumped KA FORTUNE. This resulted in both ENJOY LIFE and KA FORTUNE becoming unbalanced and ENJOY LIFE then being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of STAR WIN which shifted out, causing ENJOY LIFE to strike the heels of STAR WIN approaching the 600 Metres and become further unbalanced. STUNNING IMPACT, which was following ENJOY LIFE, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence. T H So stated that after this incident ENJOY LIFE did not travel well and again became awkwardly placed close to the heels of STAR WIN approaching the 500 Metres. He added ENJOY LIFE did not respond to his riding in the Straight and failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of ENJOY LIFE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ENJOY LIFE, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ENJOY LIFE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Throughout the race, STAR WIN travelled wide and without cover.
Passing the winning post, K C Leung (WONDER EXPRESS) dropped his whip.
H T Mo (CALIFORNIA LEGEND) was warned against the practice of using the whip forward of the saddle.
A veterinary inspection of SO WE JOY, STUNNING IMPACT, BULLETPROOF and KA FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SO WE JOY, REGENCY MASTER and CALIFORNIA LEGEND were sent for sampling.
