Steward Report Predict Pace Map
COPARTNER SPIRIT was withdrawn on 8.9.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen and sensitive right front fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BEST FOR YOU (H N Wong). Before being allowed to race again, COPARTNER SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WOOD ON FIRE shifted out at the start and bumped FEARLESS FIRE. FEARLESS FIRE then became unbalanced and shifted out away from WOOD ON FIRE, resulting in AUTHENTIC CHAMP being steadied away from the heels of FEARLESS FIRE and losing ground. HERE COMES TED shifted out at the start and bumped NAMJONG SINGS. After travelling a short distance, VICTORIOUS LEADER raced in restricted room between DIAMOND RHYME which shifted in and JAZZ STEED which shifted out after bumping the hindquarters of BEST FOR YOU. Near the 1100 Metres, MELBOURNE HALL was crowded for room between BEST FOR YOU and FEARLESS FIRE which shifted out. In this incident, MELBOURNE HALL bumped the hindquarters of BEST FOR YOU which became unbalanced and shifted in when racing tight inside JAZZ STEED. Approaching the 1000 Metres, BEST FOR YOU was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HERE COMES TED. At the entrance to the Straight, POWER KING was directed out away from the heels of DIAMOND RHYME. Passing the 100 Metres, AUTHENTIC CHAMP, which was finishing off the race well, shifted out marginally when improving into tight running between WOOD ON FIRE and JAZZ STEED and consequently had to be directed in away from the heels of WOOD ON FIRE. AUTHENTIC CHAMP was then unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be fully tested. Throughout the race, POWER KING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of JAZZ STEED, C Schofield stated that he was able to obtain a good position in the early stages from barrier 6. He said after allowing NAMJONG SINGS to cross JAZZ STEED after the 800 Metres, his mount became unbalanced of its own accord. He said that after this JAZZ STEED travelled comfortably and after obtaining clear running inside NAMJONG SINGS shortly after entering the Straight, he expected the horse to finish off the race strongly, particularly given the manner in which it had barrier trialed in the lead up to tonight’s race. He added however that JAZZ STEED immediately came under heavy pressure, did not quicken and then was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He said on dismounting JAZZ STEED, he observed that JAZZ STEED had got its tongue back which, in his opinion, accounted for the horse’s failure to close off the race. Mr C Fownes, trainer of JAZZ STEED, confirmed that when he observed JAZZ STEED immediately after the race, the horse had got its tongue back and because of this he will apply a tongue tie to JAZZ STEED in its track work with a view to racing the horse in that gear in its future starts. A veterinary inspection of JAZZ STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JAZZ STEED, MELBOURNE HALL and POWER KING were sent for sampling.
