EVEN KEEL began only fairly. HEALTHY TREASURE bumped the inside of its gate on jumping. GOLDEN GENERAL began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped AMAZING AGILITY. After this, GOLDEN GENERAL was steadied to obtain cover. REGENCY GEM shifted out at the start and bumped JOY MASTER which was crowded for room when taken out onto the hindquarters of HOME WIN which began awkwardly. After this, REGENCY GEM and JOY MASTER made further contact on a number of occasions. REGENCY GEM was then steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail. Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE was slow to muster speed. From the outside barrier, DAILY CHARM was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1300 Metres, GOLDEN GENERAL got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOY MASTER which shifted in after improving into tight running inside the heels of HOME WIN which shifted in. After this, GOLDEN GENERAL proved very difficult to settle and for some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of JOY MASTER. In this incident, GOLDEN GENERAL shifted in and inconvenienced REGENCY GEM. GOLDEN GENERAL then continued to travel keenly. After the 1200 Metres, AMAZING AGILITY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 50 Metres, EVEN KEEL was struck over the nose by the whip of N Callan (JOY MASTER). After this, EVEN KEEL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of JOY MASTER which shifted out marginally. In the Straight, SHANGHAI DRAGON lay out under pressure. After the race, B Shinn reported that HOME WIN came under heavy pressure prior to the 500 Metres and its action then deteriorated in the early part of the Straight. He said because of this he eased his mount down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of HOME WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, HOME WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN GENERAL immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN GENERAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE, HAPPY WIN WIN and SHANGHAI DRAGON were sent for sampling.
