STRIVE FOR GLORY was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, NORDIC WELLSTAR was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. NORDIC WELLSTAR then hung out on the first turn, ran wide and lost ground. MOMENT OF POWER raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and in the Straight gave ground. Over the concluding stages, LITTLE BIRD raced in restricted room between FABULOUS EIGHT and SAUL’S SPECIAL and as a consequence was not ridden out all the way to the finishing line. After the race, H T Mo voiced concern regarding the action of MR LUMIERES. A veterinary inspection of MR LUMIERES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, MR LUMIERES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Z Purton stated that it was intended for FLYING GENIUS to be ridden in a forward position, however, just prior to the start being effected the horse lunged at the front gates and then when the gates opened FLYING GENIUS was left flat-footed and missed the start. He said this resulted in FLYING GENIUS settling much further back in the field than was intended and under the circumstances he felt that the horse closed off the race satisfactorily in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of FLYING GENIUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FABULOUS EIGHT, KURPANY and WILD WEST WING were sent for sampling.
