On arrival at the Start, it was noted that TOM’S STYLE had blood in its mouth. TOM’S STYLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race. CAPSULE KING was slow to begin. LUCKY ONE began only fairly and shortly after the start was momentarily eased away from the heels of TRAVEL DATUK which shifted in. FARM BUMPER and NEXTMODEL bumped at the start. U W BROTHER shifted out at the start and inconvenienced LOTUS FAVORITES. Then, from the outside barrier, LOTUS FAVORITES was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from a wide barrier, STAR SUPERIOR was steadied to obtain cover. Approaching and passing the 700 Metres, CAPSULE KING travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind TOM’S STYLE. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, STAR SUPERIOR, which was left racing wide and without cover, was bumped by CAPSULE KING which made the turn awkwardly when continuing to travel keenly. Rounding the Home Turn, TOM’S STYLE was awkwardly placed behind FLAMING PASSION which shifted to the inside of TRAVEL DATUK. Near the 150 Metres, U W BROTHER, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by FLAMING PASSION which improved into tight running between U W BROTHER and NEXTMODEL. Over the concluding stages, FARM BUMPER raced tight inside GOODMANSHIP which shifted in under pressure. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of U W BROTHER, J Moreira stated that, in his opinion, the performance was attributable to the fact that he had to make too much use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position from a wide barrier. He said he had to ride U W BROTHER aggressively to obtain a forward position and, in his opinion, this resulted in the horse then not being able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of U W BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of NEXTMODEL immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NEXTMODEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that TOM’S STYLE had bled from both nostrils. JOYFUL WIN and TRAVEL DATUK were sent for sampling.
