SURE WINNER shifted out at the start and bumped DECISIVE TWELVE which in turn shifted out and bumped VIGOR CHAMP. FAMILY FOLKS began awkwardly and lost ground. ERNEST FEELING shifted out abruptly at the start across the heels of SMART WONGCHOY. When racing wide after the 1100 Metres, SMART WONGCHOY got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover. Approaching the 800 Metres, BULLISH UNICORN was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 800 Metres, ZACIAN became unbalanced and lost ground when crowded for room between SMART WONGCHOY and ERNEST FEELING which shifted out when awkwardly placed behind VIGOR CHAMP. Passing the 700 Metres, SMART WONGCHOY again got its head up on a number of occasions when racing tight outside the heels of FAMILY FOLKS. Passing the 500 Metres, DESTINE JEWELLERY was steadied away from the heels of SURE WINNER. Also passing the 500 Metres, ERNEST FEELING was shifted out away from the heels of VIGOR CHAMP (R Maia) which shifted to the outside of DRAGON FORTUNE. R Maia was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. ERNEST FEELING then shifted out when awkwardly placed behind FAMILY FOLKS and in doing so bumped SMART WONGCHOY, causing both horses to become unbalanced. ERNEST FEELING then had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200 Metres. ERNEST FEELING and SMART WONGCHOY then raced tight approaching and passing the 50 Metres. DESTINE JEWELLERY was held up for clear running passing the 400 Metres and then after continuing to have difficulty obtaining clear running was checked away from the heels of SCENIC SWEETIE passing the 200 Metres. KUNG FU TEA, which was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres, was then shifted out away from the heels of DESTINE JEWELLERY in consequence. KUNG FU TEA was then shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be properly tested. When questioned regarding his riding of DECISIVE TWELVE in the Straight, C Y Ho stated that he was instructed to try and obtain a trailing position or sit outside the leader if possible. He said DECISIVE TWELVE began well and when no other horse was intent on leading, he was required to lead the race outright. He said when having to lead, DECISIVE TWELVE would not relax and travelled keenly in the early and middle stages. He said he did not place DECISIVE TWELVE under pressure until after the 400 Metres as he did not want to make too long a run on DECISIVE TWELVE given the manner in which it had travelled keenly up to that point. He said passing the 300 Metres he rode DECISIVE TWELVE along more vigorously and the horse quickened nicely and responded well to his riding. He said as DECISIVE TWELVE had responded well to his urgings at this stage, he continued to ride the horse along hands and heels for as long as possible. He added he was aware that a runner was making ground to his outside approaching the 100 Metres and because of this he continued to ride his mount vigorously hands and heels as he did not believe that the horse would respond any better by using the whip at this stage. He said close to the finishing line DRAGON FORTUNE was finishing off the race better than DECISIVE TWELVE and as DECISIVE TWELVE’s run was ending, he was required then to use the whip in an attempt to see whether the horse could lift over the concluding stages. He said as DRAGON FORTUNE was finishing off the race better than DECISIVE TWELVE, he was of the opinion that using the whip earlier on the horse would not have resulted in it finishing off the race any stronger than it did. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH UNICORN and ZACIAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DRAGON FORTUNE and DECISIVE TWELVE were sent for sampling.
