GREAT HARVEST lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began only fairly. TIGER GLARE also began only fairly. SOCCER MASTER shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of LUCKY VICTOR. THE FULL BLOOM shifted in at the start and bumped HAPPY JAI JAI. Then from a wide barrier, THE FULL BLOOM was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the outside barrier, CRUCIATUS was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1200 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD momentarily raced in restricted room between GREAT HARVEST and WINWIN THIRTYTHREE. Approaching the 1100 Metres, TIGER GLARE shifted in and bumped FIRE AND GOLD. After the 1000 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD was checked away from the heels of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE which at this time commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ONE STEP AHEAD. Then near the 950 Metres, FIRE AND GOLD, which was over-racing, shifted in away from the heels of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE, resulting in CRUCIATUS becoming unbalanced when crowded for room inside FIRE AND GOLD. FIRE AND GOLD also shifted out in this incident and bumped TIGER GLARE which was travelling keenly. Near the 950 Metres, SOCCER MASTER got its head up when being steadied as a result of being crowded for room between BLAZING PARTNERS and HAPPY JAI JAI (M L Yeung) which shifted in. M L Yeung was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear of other runners when shifting ground in future. Passing the 700 Metres, UNIVERSAL RECORD was taken into a position three wide and without cover by LUCKY VICTOR which shifted out away from the heels of WAYFOONG STAR. HAPPY JAI JAI got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. Passing the 300 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of ALLOY STAR. Passing the 250 Metres, GREAT HARVEST raced tight inside the heels of LUCKY VICTOR which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Passing the 200 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was steadied when crowded for room between BLAZING PARTNERS which initially shifted in and ALLOY STAR which shifted out. Throughout the race, HAPPY JAI JAI travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of WAYFOONG STAR, SOCCER MASTER and UNIVERSAL RECORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of CRUCIATUS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. WINWIN THIRTYTHREE and ALLOY STAR were sent for sampling.
