Steward Report Predict Pace Map
On arrival at the barriers, UNIVERSAL CROWN was noted to have blood in the mouth. A veterinary examination of UNIVERSAL CROWN found that horse to be suitable to race. NOBLE MAN and UNIVERSAL CROWN bumped at the start. THE ELITES was slow to begin and then was shifted across behind runners from the outside barrier. From wide barriers, FOR FUN’S SAKE and SUPER KIN were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 900 Metres, FOX CHEUNGER was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 900 Metres, CRUCIATUS commenced to travel keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind MANY GAINS. This resulted in CRUCIATUS being checked away from the heels of MANY GAINS passing the 800 Metres. After this, CRUCIATUS continued to prove very difficult to settle and near the 650 Metres got its head up when again being checked away from the heels of MANY GAINS. CRUCIATUS then shifted out away from the heels of MANY GAINS approaching the 600 Metres and became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of FOX CHEUNGER. In this incident, CRUCIATUS shifted out and bumped FOR FUN’S SAKE. When CRUCIATUS shifted out, THE ELITES commenced to improve into running which was available between GLORIOUS BUDDY and CRUCIATUS. CRUCIATUS then shifted in when racing tight inside FOR FUN’S SAKE and bumped the hindquarters of THE ELITES, resulting in THE ELITES becoming unbalanced and shifting out, causing CRUCIATUS to be checked when crowded for room inside FOR FUN’S SAKE. When CRUCIATUS was checked, SUPER KIN, which was racing to the outside of that horse, was directed out away from CRUCIATUS in consequence. As the Stewards were of the opinion that THE ELITES was initially entitled to improve into running which had been created by CRUCIATUS shifting out and that the main contact between CRUCIATUS and THE ELITES had been as a result of both horses shifting ground, no further action was taken. Passing the 500 Metres, GLORIOUS BUDDY was awkwardly placed behind UNIVERSAL CROWN. After the race, Apprentice C L Chau (UNIVERSAL CROWN) reported that his mount travelled too keenly in the middle stages to be able to finish off the race. He said when racing behind NOBLE MAN approaching the 800 Metres, UNIVERSAL CROWN commenced to prove very difficult to settle and had to be checked away from the heels of that horse for some distance. He said UNIVERSAL CROWN then became unbalanced after the 700 Metres as a result of making contact with FOCUS, which also became unbalanced, which was due to UNIVERSAL CROWN continuing to travel keenly and shifting out away from the heels of NOBLE MAN. He added due to the manner in which the horse over-raced in the middle stages, UNIVERSAL CROWN, after travelling close to the heels of NOBLE MAN near the 400 Metres, was then unable to quicken after obtaining clear running and finished off the race only one-paced. A veterinary inspection of UNIVERSAL CROWN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. Before being allowed to race again, UNIVERSAL CROWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of TIGERLAD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. UNIVERSAL CROWN, MOON PEAKS and FOR FUN’S SAKE were sent for sampling.
