DEVIL AND GOLD was withdrawn on 7.1.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LADY’S CHOICE (L Ferraris). Before being allowed to race again, DEVIL AND GOLD will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
AUGUST MOON stumbled at the start and shifted out, resulting in COMPASSION SUPER, which also began awkwardly, being crowded for room inside POLYMER GLORIOUS.
SMART LEADER shifted out on jumping and bumped VAMOS. Then from the outside barriers, SMART LEADER and VAMOS were shifted across behind runners.
Also from a wide barrier, A AMERIC TE SPECSO was steadied in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail.
After travelling a short distance, UNITED WE STAND shifted out and bumped THE HULK which was then crowded for room inside the hindquarters of TRUST ME.
At the 1150 Metres, MULTIWIN momentarily raced in restricted room between TRUST ME and AUGUST MOON which shifted in.
When being steadied to obtain cover passing the 1000 Metres, POLYMER GLORIOUS got its head up and over-raced when travelling close to the heels of MULTIWIN. After this, POLYMER GLORIOUS continued to prove very difficult to settle for some distance.
After being steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier, LADY’S CHOICE was left racing wide and without cover passing the 900 Metres.
SMART LEADER lay out under pressure over the latter stages.
After the race, A Hamelin stated that, in his opinion, UNITED WE STAND was very disappointing in today’s race. He said after obtaining the lead as instructed, UNITED WE STAND lay out throughout the race and then after coming under pressure passing the 400 Metres was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of UNITED WE STAND immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained an abrasion to the right front fetlock.
A veterinary inspection of VAMOS immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
COMPASSION SUPER and TRUST ME were sent for sampling.
