YOUNG SPARKLE jumped only fairly and then was crowded for room by HEAVENLY THOUGHT which shifted in.
SMART BEAUTY also jumped only fairly.
HAPPY MATADOR jumped awkwardly.
EASY LIFE shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of U W BROTHER.
Shortly after the start, MASTER OF LUCK was crowded by APEX TOP which shifted out slightly.
Near the 800 Metres, HEAVENLY THOUGHT was steadied when racing tight to the inside of HAPPY MATADOR.
YOUNG HORIZON raced keenly in the middle stages.
Passing the 600 Metres, MASTER OF LUCK endeavoured to shift out to improve and in doing so made contact with TURF BRILLIANT.
For some distance approaching the 300 Metres, YOUNG SPARKLE was held up for clear running behind JUST GREAT TWO before shifting to that runner’s inside approaching the 275 Metres to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100 Metres, SMART BEAUTY improved into a narrow run to the inside of BEAUTY NOVA which was inclined to lay in. SMART BEAUTY then race tight to the inside of BEAUTY NOVA over the final 100 Metres.
Approaching the winning post, SMART BEAUTY and JUST GREAT TWO made contact due to SMART BEAUTY continuing to race tight to the inside of BEAUTY NOVA and YOUNG SPARKLE being shifted to the outside of APEX TOP to secure clear running. As a result, JUST GREAT TWO could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.
CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding EASY LIFE racing in a more forward position, V Borges stated that his instructions were to endeavour to obtain a position in or near the lead as EASY LIFE resented racing inside and behind other runners at its previous starts. Trainer K H Ting confirmed the instructions issued and the reasons as to why he issued such instructions.
After the race, L Hewitson (MASTER OF LUCK) reported that his mount was unsuited by settling back in the field and found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.
Also after the race, A Badel (HEAVENLY THOUGHT) reported that his mount resented the kickback due to the race being run in wet weather. A veterinary inspection of HEAVENLY THOUGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
YOUNG HORIZON and APEX TOP were sent for sampling.
