On jumping, SPLENDID STAR and SPEED FORCE were crowded for room between LUCKY VICTOR and WIN WIN CHARITY which shifted in. Shortly after the start, COLOURFUL BARON was bumped by GREEN LASER which shifted out, resulting in COLOURFUL BARON shifting out and crowding RUN RUN GOOD. As a result, RUN RUN GOOD made contact with the hindquarters of GOLD COMET, resulting in GOLD COMET becoming unbalanced. GOLD COMET was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the outside barriers, CHIRON and TRAVEL GLORY were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. WIN WIN CHARITY lost its right hind plate in the middle stages. Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres, CHIRON was held up for clear running. From the 400 Metres to the 300 Metres, SURE WIN WIN had difficulty obtaining clear running. SEATOSKY raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of LUCKY VICTOR, Trainer K H Ting stated that at its last start LUCKY VICTOR, from a wide barrier, was caught wide throughout the majority of the race and was also obliged to be ridden along in the early stages to hold a forward position. He added subsequent to that run LUCKY VICTOR was sent to Conghua for a freshen-up and after re-joining his Hong Kong stable had pleased him including a barrier trial on 2 May 2023. He further stated that LUCKY VICTOR was advantaged tonight by drawing the inside gate and being able to lead similar to its last win on 25 September 2022. After the race, H Bentley (RUN RUN GOOD) reported that his mount made a respiratory noise during the running of the event. A veterinary inspection of RUN RUN GOOD immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of TRAVEL GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. COLOURFUL BARON, LUCKY VICTOR and EL VALIENTE were sent for sampling.
