MEGA BULLET and AMAZING CHOISIR were slow to begin. In the Home Straight, CHOICE AND CHANCE was not able to obtain clear running between TOP STITCH and HAPPY SUNDAY until just prior to the winning post. Because of this, CHOICE AND CHANCE was not properly tested. Throughout the race, MY PRIDE travelled wide and without cover. For the major part of the race, INSIDER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, W M Lai (CHOICE AND CHANCE) said he had been instructed that if other horses went quickly in the early stages, he should trail the lead. He said as TOP STITCH was drawn outside him and he was aware that horse has natural speed, he allowed TOP STITCH to cross in front of him in the early stages, then maintained a position behind that horse in the run. Mr T W Leung, the trainer of CHOICE AND CHANCE, confirmed the riding instructions issued to W M Lai. INSIDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of INSIDER after the race did not show any significant findings. CHOICE AND CHANCE, KEEN SOUL and TOP STITCH were sent for sampling.
