SPY KING and LIGHTNING MOUNT were slow to begin. SPLENDID SAILS began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, VALUE CHOICE knuckled, became unbalanced and as a consequence lost ground, then shortly afterwards bumped with DOUBLE FANTASY. After the 800 Metres, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was left racing without cover. At the 500 Metres, CELESTIAL WONDER was steadied away from the heels of DONGGUAN VICTORY. SPLENDID SAILS, which was following, was steadied in consequence. For a short distance after straightening, KING OF SPADES had difficulty obtaining clear running. In the Straight, DOUBLE FANTASY hung in. When questioned, Trainer Y S Tsui (DONGGUAN VICTORY) said from the outside barrier he instructed M W Leung to endeavour to have the horse travel in a forward position. He said DONGGUAN VICTORY had indicated in its work that it was fresh and he believed because of this it was possible to have the horse ridden further forward than is usual. He said he believed DONGGUAN VICTORY would perform well if it was able to travel in a forward position. He added his intention would be to continue having DONGGUAN VICTORY ridden in a forward position where circumstances permit, however, these instructions might not be able to be carried out when the horse lost its freshness. SPLENDID SAILS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID SAILS after the race did not show any significant findings. RAMPANT LION, DONGGUAN VICTORY and MULTI-WIN SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
