Steward Report Predict Pace Map
DANEPRINT got its head up on jumping and lost ground. On jumping, WINWIN COMBO became unbalanced after bumping with CHEERFUL HAPPINESS. D Whyte (LUCKY CORDELIA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WINWIN COMBO, resulting in that horse losing its rightful running and being checked. D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 4 November 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Sunday 28 October 2007. In addition, D Whyte was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. At the 600 Metres, VITAL PATROL got its head on the side, hung in and was steadied away from the heels of MASTER YING. At the 250 Metres, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was hampered by SPEED OF LIGHT which at this time was itself hampered and carried wider by STEP FORWARD which shifted to the outside of MASTER YING to obtain clear running. No action was taken. After the 100 Metres, HAPPY ASH was bumped by HURRICANE WAY which shifted in away from MASTER YING when improving to the inside of that horse. Also after the 100 Metres, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was steadied away from the heels of SPEED OF LIGHT which shifted out into clear running. Just prior to the winning post, WINWIN COMBO was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of DANEPRINT which itself became awkwardly placed close to the heels of MASTER YING when closing the race off fairly. Because of this, DANEPRINT and WINWIN COMBO were not ridden out to the end of the race as they normally would be. For the major part of the race, OH GREAT travelled wide and without cover. Mr S Woods, trainer of WINNING PATTERN, explained from a wide barrier with speed horses drawn inside he felt WINNING PATTERN would have to have had too much use made of it in the early stages to cross to the front of the field and he was concerned the horse would be caught racing wide and without cover. He said because of this he instructed G Mossé to take WINNING PATTERN back and endeavour to find the fence. G Mossé confirmed the riding instructions issued and said in the early stages he endeavoured to take his mount back towards the rear, however, it proved difficult for him to settle and as a consequence in the early stages travelled without cover. He said near the 1200 Metres he shifted across to obtain a position behind OH GREAT, however, WINNING PATTERN continued to prove difficult to settle. He said when it appeared the tempo of the race began to steady after entering the Back Straight, he elected to allow WINNING PATTERN to stride forward, however, the horse continued to race three wide. He said as a consequence in the Home Straight WINNING PATTERN gave ground and was disappointing. Mr Woods said he accepted the circumstances of the race led to G Mossé going forward in the middle stages, however, he was of the firm opinion that had the horse been able to be ridden as intended, it would have managed to close the race off strongly. When questioned, Mr Woods accepted WINNING PATTERN had performed satisfactorily without winning when ridden forward from wide barriers previously. He did say the horse had also been disappointing on occasions when unable to have the race run to suit when travelling forward from wide draws. He said he felt tonight’s race would not be run to suit WINNING PATTERN if it were to be ridden forward. Mr Woods was told whilst the Stewards accepted there were circumstances surrounding the performance of WINNING PATTERN, he nonetheless has the responsibilities to ensure horses trained by him perform consistently where possible. HURRICANE WAY and MASTER YING were sent for sampling.
