HAR HAR CHARMS began awkwardly. TOP TOP LIGHT began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of KINGS CROSS. Shortly after this, TOP TOP LIGHT and THE WORLD OF LOVE bumped. From the outside barrier, AMO was taken across behind runners. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, HAR HAR CHARMS was steadied away from the heels of SPEED FIGHTER. PROPELLOR, which was following HAR HAR CHARMS and racing tight inside TOP TOP LIGHT, was checked in consequence. At the 900 Metres, TOP TOP LIGHT was steadied to allow KINGS CROSS to shift in. After this, TOP TOP LIGHT proved very difficult to settle, shifted wider on the track and on a number of occasions got its head up. Prior to straightening, HAR HAR CHARMS was steadied away from the heels of THE WORLD OF LOVE. PROPELLOR, which was following, was steadied in consequence. At the 150 Metres, PROPELLOR was disappointed for running between KINGS CROSS and TOP TOP LIGHT which shifted in away from ELEGANT KING PRAWN after initially being carried in by that horse. D Beadman (ELEGANT KING PRAWN) explained from a wide barrier in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race, he was instructed to take his mount back to obtain a position on the fence with cover. He said it was felt if ELEGANT KING PRAWN were ridden to go forward, it would travel wide and without cover which would not suit the horse on tonight’s track. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TOP TOP LIGHT, G Mossé said he had been instructed to have the horse in 3rd or 4th position if possible with cover. He said after TOP TOP LIGHT was a little slow to begin, he then rode along in an endeavour to obtain a position as instructed, however, as runners to his inside held their positions, he was not able to do so. He said because of the manner in which he rode TOP TOP LIGHT in the early stages, his mount over-raced badly and as a consequence failed to finish the race off and was most disappointing. TOP TOP LIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of TOP TOP LIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. HAR HAR CHARMS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HAR HAR CHARMS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. THE WORLD OF LOVE and MR COOL were sent for sampling.
