THE GOODIES was slow to begin. BAJAN BELL began awkwardly, causing A Delpech, its rider, to become unbalanced. For some distance approaching and passing the 1400 Metres, ROYAL DOMAIN proved difficult to settle. At the 1100 Metres, RIGHT FRAAR, which had shifted in, was steadied away from the heels of LIAOBUQI. In the Straight, ROYAL DOMAIN hung out and over the concluding stages raced in restricted room inside LIAOBUQI which was giving ground. S Dye (THE GOODIES) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said in his opinion the track work of THE GOODIES leading into today’s race had improved since its first up run. He said at no stage of today’s race did THE GOODIES travel well underneath him. He said at the 700 Metres because of the steady tempo of the race, he endeavoured to improve his position around BAJAN BELL, however, THE GOODIES was not travelling well enough to do so. He said because of this making the Home Turn he was carried wider by BAJAN BELL which shifted out on his inside. He said in the Straight when under pressure THE GOODIES did not respond. Mr C Fownes, trainer of THE GOODIES, was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. He said THE GOODIES was well fancied by the stable in today’s race on the strength of its track work since its last run. The performance of THE GOODIES was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THE GOODIES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAN IN THE MIRROR and THE GOODIES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAN IN THE MIRROR and THE GOODIES after the race did not show any significant findings. COURAGEOUSHEART and WINNING SPEED were sent for sampling.
