SINGING DINERS was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, OURAJA was taken back behind runners. Approaching the 1200 Metres, CIRCUIT HERO, which had been racing wide on the track, was taken across behind runners to obtain a position with cover. At the 1200 Metres, MACHO EXPRESSO, which was racing forward and wide without cover, was steadied and taken back to a position with cover behind the leaders. After the 1000 Metres, ENCHANTED was left racing wide without cover. For a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, LUCKY HERO had difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 350 Metres, GRAND STORE was checked when disappointed for running between MACHO EXPRESSO and ENCHANTED. After this, GRAND STORE was shifted in in an endeavour to find clear running, however, was again steadied when disappointed for running between ENCHANTED and LUCKY HERO. E Saint-Martin (SINGING DINERS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of STAR OF FAME, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. E Saint-Martin was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 26 November 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 17 November 2007. In addition, E Saint-Martin was fined $50,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. Over about the final 200 Metres, SUPER SNIPPETS had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 50 Metres was steadied when tightened for room inside CIRCUIT HERO which at this time was carried in by OURAJA (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted ground when not properly clear. Apprentice Chui will be reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. For the majority of the Home Straight, ENCORE WIN was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not properly tested. Also for the majority of the Home Straight, HAPPY MASTER had difficulty obtaining clear running and because of this was not fully tested. A Delpech (ENCORE WIN) reported on jumping his saddle shifted back, placing him at a disadvantage. M Nunes (STAR OF FAME) said he was instructed to ride the horse in a forward position with cover if possible in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race. He said shortly after the start it became apparent to him that a number of horses to his inside were being pressured to go forward, he therefore elected to steady his mount and shift across behind runners to ensure he had cover. He said he was able to obtain a position behind SINGING DINERS on the rail, however, he was racing further back than anticipated. He said for the majority of the Home Straight he had difficulty obtaining clear running. He said if STAR OF FAME had been able to obtain clear running, in his opinion it would have finished in the placings. F Coetzee (MACHO EXPRESSO) was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he obtained a nice position with cover after the 1200 Metres and MACHO EXPRESSO travelled kindly. He said approaching the Home Turn he shifted MACHO EXPRESSO wider to ensure it had clear running and the horse responded nicely. He said in the early part of the Straight MACHO EXPRESSO improved in the manner which suggested it would figure in the finish of the race, however, over the final 300 Metres was disappointing and failed to continue to close the race off. MACHO EXPRESSO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MACHO EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. O’REILLY RALLY, LUCKY HERO and SINGING DINERS were sent for sampling.
