At declaration time, D Beadman was declared as the rider of both VINCERE and KAISER’S CHOIX. It was established that D Beadman had a firm commitment to ride KAISER’S CHOIX. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice K T Yeung to be substituted as the rider of VINCERE. Mr J Moore, trainer of VINCERE, was fined $2,000 for this error. On jumping, GALLANT FALCON was checked when crowded for room between VINCERE and DIAGHILEV which shifted out abruptly. Shortly after this, VINCERE was crowded for room inside NAMJONG GOODLUCK which shifted ground. After this, VINCERE shifted out and bumped NAMJONG GOODLUCK which as a consequence lost ground. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, GALLANT FALCON was steadied when crowded for room inside VINCERE which was momentarily carried in by SUPREME GOLD In the early stages, TALE OF FRIENDSHIP failed to muster speed. Approaching the 1200 Metres, GALLANT FALCON got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIAGHILEV which at this time was awkwardly placed inside the heels of KAISER’S CHOIX. Also approaching the 1200 Metres, MACAROON was steadied away from the heels of NAMJONG GOODLUCK. In the Straight, KING OF SHAVER hung in. KING OF SHAVER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING OF SHAVER after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREME GOLD, RAIN CHECK and TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
