After being boxed, ALL OUR WAY became fractious. CHATER SILK and CARE FREE PRINCE began awkwardly. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHATER SILK was steadied away from the heels of ALL OUR WAY which shifted in when barely clear. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUNBELL failed to muster speed. Near the 1300 Metres, ADD THE FUN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BRILLIANT ONE. For some distance after the 600 Metres, FAIR WIN and ALL OUR WAY raced tight due mainly to ALL OUR WAY endeavouring to shift out. At the 100 Metres, BRILLIANT ONE was steadied and shifted to the outside of CLASSA SUPREME which was giving ground. When questioned, S K Sit (CARE FREE PRINCE) explained throughout the race he followed MULTI MILLIONS and after the 600 Metres he was held up and unable to improve his position when MULTI MILLIONS did not improve. He said because of this CARE FREE PRINCE was carried back to the tail of the field on straightening. After viewing the video of the race, S K Sit acknowledged approaching the 500 Metres there was an opportunity for him to shift out from behind MULTI MILLIONS to follow ADD THE FUN which would have enabled him to improve his position into the Home Straight. After considering the manner in which CARE FREE PRINCE finished the race off, the Stewards advised S K Sit that he has a responsibility to avail himself of opportunities which present themselves particularly at vital stages of a race.   When questioned, D Beadman (OCEAN TRANQUIL) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse, then after obtaining the lead ride the horse in a manner which gave it the best opportunity of running out the 1650 Metres. Mr W Y So, assistant trainer to Mr C Fownes, trainer of OCEAN TRANQUIL, confirmed the riding instructions issued to D Beadman. As Mr Fownes was absent from Hong Kong for tonight’s racemeeting, the Stewards will interview him regarding the circumstances of these instructions at a later date. B Prebble (FAIR WIN) explained from a wide barrier he had been instructed to take FAIR WIN behind runners in the early stages to a position with cover and ride the horse for luck in the Home Straight. He said it was felt from the gate FAIR WIN would be required to have too much use made of it to go forward in the early stages. He said he rode in accordance with his instructions until the 600 Metres when he noted CHATER SILK commenced to improve its position around the field. He said at this time he shifted out to follow that horse forward. He said in his opinion this provided FAIR WIN the best opportunity of improving into the race. He said if he had remained racing on the rail, he did not believe FAIR WIN would travel in a manner which would enable it to sprint home. MULTI MILLIONS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, MULTI MILLIONS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being permitted to race again, MULTI MILLIONS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNBELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUNBELL after the race did not show any significant findings. OCEAN TRANQUIL and DR POSSI were sent for sampling.
