Steward Report Predict Pace Map
At declaration time, E Saint-Martin was declared as the rider of both INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS and ON SHAN BRAVE. It was established that E Saint-Martin had a firm commitment to ride ON SHAN BRAVE. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice C W Wong to be substituted as the rider of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS. Mr C H Yip, trainer of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS, was fined $2,000 for this error. KINGSGATE GLORY began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, SILVER MARK was taken across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, PRIME TARGET was checked when crowded for room between KINGSGATE GLORY and AMSTERDAM, both of which shifted ground slightly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 450 Metres, PRIME TARGET was steadied when unable to improve between KINGSGATE GLORY and AMSTERDAM. Shortly after straightening, KINGSGATE GLORY was steadied and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS. Near the 200 Metres, MASTERY was shifted to the inside of LUCKY MONEY to obtain clear running. Also near the 200 Metres, SEASONS KNACK was reluctant to shift out into clear running. D Whyte (QUEST FOR LOVE) explained throughout the race his mount travelled in a three wide position without cover. He said MASTERY which was travelling to his inside held a position one off the fence which prevented him from shifting in. He said near the 200 Metres QUEST FOR LOVE was well beaten and at that time PRIME TARGET improved quickly on his inside and commenced to shift out. He said because of this he stopped riding QUEST FOR LOVE. He said because of the manner in which QUEST FOR LOVE was giving ground, he did not ride his mount out for the remainder of the race. The performance of QUEST FOR LOVE, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, QUEST FOR LOVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. QUEST FOR LOVE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of QUEST FOR LOVE after the race did not show any significant findings. PERSEVERANCE and PRIME TARGET were sent for sampling.
