Prior to the start being effected, ROYAL PRINCE became fractious, then as the gates opened lifted its front feet off the ground, began awkwardly and lost ground. FLORAL PEGASUS began awkwardly, causing Apprentice K L Chui, its rider, to become unbalanced. SUNNY POWER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, JOYFUL WINNER was crowded for room between ABLE ONE and POCKET MONEY. In the early stages, MY CHOICE, AMBITIOUS GENERAL and ABLE ONE were taken across behind runners. Also in the early stages when racing without cover, POCKET MONEY proved difficult to settle. On straightening, VIVA MACAU was carried wider by FLORAL PEGASUS which shifted out into clear running. B Prebble (ROYAL PRINCE) said in his opinion the horse’s poor performance was attributable to the drop back in distance and the fact that it got left flat-footed when the tempo of the race quickened making the Home Turn. ROYAL PRINCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ROYAL PRINCE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNNY POWER, POCKET MONEY and DOWN TOWN were sent for sampling.
