Steward Report Predict Pace Map
AMBITIOUS OWNER and SPARKLING STAR were slow to begin. On jumping, SUPER GENKI knuckled, then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. In the early stages, CONFUCIUS CLASSIC pulled hard, got its head on the side and hung in and near the 1200 Metres shifted ground, causing TOP TOP LIGHT to be momentarily crowded for room and steadied. After this, CONFUCIUS CLASSIC continued to prove difficult to settle. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, SUPER CHARGE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CONFUCIUS CLASSIC. Prior to straightening, SUPER GENKI was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER CHARGE which at this time shifted to the inside of CONFUCIUS CLASSIC. Shortly after straightening, SUPER GENKI was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between BULLISH WIN and CONFUCIUS CLASSIC. Throughout the race, KING OF TURF travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C Soumillon (BULLISH WIN) said he had been instructed to ride his mount in a forward position. He said it was anticipated CONGRATULATION would lead the race and he should from a wide barrier endeavour to shift across and race close to the speed. He said BULLISH WIN began well, but a little awkwardly. He said he immediately noticed GALEN WIN being hard ridden to go forward. He said he encouraged BULLISH WIN to go forward, however, when the horse did not show the natural speed, he elected to endeavour to obtain a position with cover as he felt if he had made use of BULLISH WIN, the horse would have been left racing in a forward position but wide and without cover. He said near the 1200 Metres he shifted to a position behind KING OF TURF, however, was much further back than instructed. He said when being ridden quietly, BULLISH WIN finished the race off strongly. He said the manner in which BULLISH WIN travelled in the early stages of the race indicated to him the horse may have lost its natural early speed and would be better suited racing over distances of further than today’s 1400 Metres. Trainer A S Cruz confirmed the instructions issued to C Soumillon and after viewing the official video said he was satisfied with Jockey Soumillon’s riding of BULLISH WIN. He said he believed if more use had been made of BULLISH WIN from a wide draw to travel in a forward position, it would have been detrimental to the horse’s chances. He did say if drawn more favourably, he would expect more use would be made of the horse to travel in a forward position. Mr Cruz said it is now his intention to increase the distance of BULLISH WIN’s races. SUPER GENKI was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SUPER SNIPPETS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER GENKI and SUPER SNIPPETS after the race did not show any significant findings. GALEN WIN and CONGRATULATION were sent for sampling. Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 January 2008) The Stewards have today been advised that following the race an endoscopic examination was conducted on BULLISH WIN at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. This examination showed BULLISH WIN to have a substantial amount of blood present in the horse’s trachea.
