RED WINE HONEY and SOMETHING SPECIAL were slow to begin. On jumping, ACCELERATOR and SUPER IDEAL bumped. SAMMY'S FORTUNE began awkwardly. For some distance after the 1400 Metres, ACCELERATOR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPIRIT OF LO PAN. Near the 1200 Metres, SUPER IDEAL was steadied when crowded for room inside KINGSTON TEMPLE (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not properly clear. O Doleuze was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After the 1000 Metres, ROCKET AND GOLD was steadied away from the heels of SUPER IDEAL which shifted out. Prior to straightening, JADE CHINA was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of ROCKET AND GOLD. For some distance after the 400 Metres, SPIRIT OF LO PAN had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of JAMESINA. Near the 200 Metres, ACCELERATOR was shifted to the outside of TRIUMPH which was giving ground. After this, ACCELERATOR hung in. Over the concluding stages, JAMESINA got its head on the side and shifted wider on the track. For the major part of the race, JAMESINA travelled wide and without cover. Z Purton (SUPER IDEAL) explained at the 1000 Metres in his opinion the pace of the race commenced to steady. He said at this time he noticed a number of runners over-racing and he also noted JAMESINA travelling in a three wide position. He said because of this he shifted SUPER IDEAL out from a two wide position behind JAMESINA. He said as he did this, KINGSTON TEMPLE, the horse he had been following, also shifted out and was able to obtain the position behind JAMESINA which resulted in SUPER IDEAL then travelling four wide and without cover. The Stewards accepted the explanation of Z Purton. The performance of SUPER IDEAL, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER IDEAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, SUPER IDEAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of Trainer A Schutz. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment. VINCERE and KINGSTON TEMPLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VINCERE and KINGSTON TEMPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. JAMESINA and JADE CHINA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported JADE CHINA had lost its left front plate.
