Steward Report Predict Pace Map
O Doleuze, the rider of CHATER DE LAGO, was fined $2,000 for initially weighing out with two girths. This required O Doleuze to re-weigh. After being boxed, CHATER DE LAGO reared, struck O Doleuze, its rider, in the face and then sat down. CHATER DE LAGO was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, CHATER DE LAGO will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Also after being boxed, WINNING AHEAD became fractious and reared. WINNING AHEAD was removed from its stall and had an adjustment made to the Cornell Collar which it was wearing. GREAT HERO lifted its front feet off the ground at the start and as a consequence lost ground. LUCKY TYCOON was slow to begin. Making the first turn, JOYFUL YEARS was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY TYCOON. At the 800 Metres, CHATER DE LAGO was steadied away from the heels of GOOD TRIO. Near the 200 Metres, GOOD TRIO was bumped and carried wider by LUCKY TYCOON which at this time shifted to the outside of ALICE TOO to continue improving. Approaching the 200 Metres and again near the 100 Metres, CHATER DE LAGO had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Close to the line, LUCKY TYCOON was steadied away from the heels of WIN MORE which shifted out. Also close to the line, CHATER DE LAGO was steadied when crowded for room between THAT'S IT and JOYFUL YEARS which shifted out away from LUCKY TYCOON. Because of this, CHATER DE LAGO was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Y T Cheng (WINNING AHEAD) explained he had been instructed to lead if possible. He said WINNING AHEAD was slow to begin, he then rode along from a wide barrier in an endeavour to carry out his instructions. He said after entering the Back Straight he improved to race outside the lead, however, was three wide and without cover. He said he did not continue to ride along and allowed his mount to travel in that position. He said WINNING AHEAD commenced to give ground making the turn at the 700 Metres. Y T Cheng was told to ensure he does not overdo his riding instructions. The performance of WINNING AHEAD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING AHEAD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHAMPION LAD which was having its first start today on the All Weather Track, D Beadman said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position. He said CHAMPION LAD despite being ridden along in the early stages did not muster speed and as a consequence got much further back than intended. He said he endeavoured to improve his position around the field from the 700 Metres, however, CHAMPION LAD responded only fairly to his riding and was disappointing in the Home Straight. He said today CHAMPION LAD felt as though it raced “flat”. CHAMPION LAD, WINNING AHEAD and SPRING SMILES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMPION LAD, WINNING AHEAD and SPRING SMILES after the race did not show any significant findings. GREAT HERO and WIN MORE were sent for sampling.
