KENOBE was withdrawn on 29.3.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FORTUNE DRAGON (R Fradd). DON RICARDO was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, KENOBE and DON RICARDO will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, OCTAGONAL CANYON became fractious, lunged forward and broke open the front gates of it stall. When this occurred, JAMESINA also became fractious and sat down momentarily behind. JAMESINA was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Also after being boxed, SPIRIT OF LO PAN became fractious, got its head up and had its jaw caught over the front gates of its stall for some time. NOBLE TWINS began awkwardly, bumped with TELEWIN and lost ground. MOONGLOW began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of JAMESINA. As a result of this, MOONGLOW lost ground and then travelled in a rearward position. On jumping, FORTUNE DRAGON and TRIUMPHANT ECHO bumped. After this, TRIUMPHANT ECHO was taken across behind runners and for the majority of the race hung out. In the middle stages, NOBLE TWINS hung out. At the 400 Metres, MISSION was shifted to the outside of CHAMPION LAD to go forward. Also at the 400 Metres, FORTUNE DRAGON, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced in its action. Approaching the 200 Metres, TELEWIN, which was closing the race off fairly, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ACCELERATOR. At the 150 Metres, JAMESINA was brushed by MISSION which shifted in. In the Home Straight, CHAMPION LAD did not obtain clear running and close to the winning post was checked away from the heels of SPIRIT OF LO PAN. Because of this, CHAMPION LAD was not tested. For the majority of the race, FORTUNE DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. MOONGLOW was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MOONGLOW after the race did not show any significant findings. JAMESINA, MISSION and SPIRIT OF LO PAN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported OCTAGONAL CANYON had returned with a bleeding mouth.
