PEARL HALO began awkwardly and lost ground. From a wide barrier, in the early stages, BRILLIANT TREASURE was taken across behind runners. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, ACTUARIAL TALENT, which was racing ungenerously, was checked when crowded for room between MARVELLOUS and SPEED FIGHTER which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. DEERFIELD and PEARL HALO, which were following, were inconvenienced in consequence. After this, ACTUARIAL TALENT continued to race ungenerously and in the Straight gave ground. The Stewards considered the performance of ACTUARIAL TALENT unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ACTUARIAL TALENT will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BRILLIANT TREASURE was steadied away from the heels of ACTUARIAL TALENT which got its head on the side and shifted out. The performance of VIENTO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, VIENTO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, HOT SUN travelled wide and without cover. G Mossé (SUPER GOAL MASTER) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in front of midfield if it began well, however, if it was slow to begin as it has been in the past, he should ride the horse patiently. He said after arriving at the Start he gave SUPER GOAL MASTER a good warm up in the hope that it would begin well and be able to take up a forward position. He said SUPER GOAL MASTER did leave the barriers cleanly, he immediately rode the horse along in an endeavour to obtain a position as instructed. He said near the 1100 Metres he endeavoured to shift across to a position with cover, however, a number of runners improved to his inside, therefore he continued to race wide around the first turn. He said after entering the Back Straight SUPER GOAL MASTER raced keenly, he endeavoured to steady his mount to allow runners to improve around his outside to obtain cover, however, no runners went forward of him until making the turn at the 600 Metres. He said in the Straight SUPER GOAL MASTER responded fairly to his riding. DEERFIELD and GANBARIA were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on PEARL HALO at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PEARL HALO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
