KEEN FLYER and GOOD TIME CHARLIE were slow to begin. CHOICE AND CHANCE, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside barrier, throughout the race, ASIAN CITRUS travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BLUE SAINT was steadied away from the heels of ASIAN CITRUS which shifted in when barely clear. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, INSIDER was checked when crowded for room inside OPTIC KING which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly when being steadied away from the heels of JUST RIGHT (W M Lai) which shifted in when not quite clear. KEEN SOUL, which was following, was checked and shifted out abruptly and as a result hampered MASTER OF SHAVERS and MY GOAL which was bumped when being carried wider. In the circumstances, W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Near the 500 Metres, KEEN SOUL was hampered and carried wider when bumped by CHOICE AND CHANCE which proved difficult to settle and shifted out when being steadied while awkwardly placed between BLUE SAINT and INSIDER. At the 400 Metres, KEEN SOUL was steadied away from the heels of BLUE SAINT. Prior to straightening, INSIDER became unbalanced and blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OPTIC KING and tight inside BLUE SAINT. In the Straight, KEEN SOUL hung in, proved difficult to ride, after the 200 Metres shifted ground, bumped ASIAN CITRUS, then at the 50 Metres again shifted ground and bumped JUST RIGHT. ASIAN CITRUS and INSIDER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ASIAN CITRUS and INSIDER after the race did not show any significant findings. OPTIC KING and KEEN SOUL were sent for sampling.
