After being boxed, CONQUEROR became fractious, lunged forward and made contact with the front gates of its stall. After the race, the Veterinary Officer said the horse had some blood in its mouth. ABLE KNIGHT began awkwardly, knuckled and lost ground. Shortly after the start, MAXIMUM CHARM was checked when crowded for room between SUNNY SMILES and ELECTRONIC MASTER, both of which shifted ground. CHINA LUJIA began awkwardly and lost ground and shortly afterwards lost further ground when checked as a result of being crowded for room between ACTIVE VALOUR which shifted out to relieve the pressure it had been applying to runners on its inside and DIVINE TOUCH which got its head on the side and shifted in after being bumped by ISLAND SUNRISE on jumping. In the early stages, CONQUEROR got its head up when being taken back. Approaching the 1200 Metres, ELECTRONIC MASTER was checked to avoid the heels of SUNNY SMILES which itself after being hard ridden to make up ground was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of FIRST KNIGHT which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, ELECTRONIC MASTER raced greenly for a considerable distance and on a number of occasions got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SUNNY SMILES. H W Lai (WITHALLMYHEART) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the turn at the 800 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount which was inclined to shift in away from ACTIVE VALOUR from shifting ground when not clear of FIRST KNIGHT which as a result clipped the heels of WITHALLMYHEART and almost fell. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 5 May 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 27 April 2008. In addition, H W Lai was fined $25,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. As a result of FIRST KNIGHT almost falling, SUNNY SMILES, CONQUEROR, ELECTRONIC MASTER, MAXIMUM CHARM and ABLE KNIGHT were all checked and severely hampered. In the middle stages, WITHALLMYHEART hung in. In the Straight, MAXIMUM CHARM hung out. For the majority of the race, DIVINE TOUCH travelled wide and without cover. ABLE KNIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ABLE KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. ISLAND SUNRISE, CHINA HERO and CHINA LUJIA were sent for sampling.
