CLASSIC KING bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. BROWN BEAUTY and RED WINE HONEY were slow to begin. Near the 1600 Metres, PERFECT MATCH was steadied when crowded for room between RED WINE HONEY and SUPER SURPRISE. After the 1200 Metres, FORTUNE DRAGON, which was proving difficult to settle, was shifted out from behind SIMPLY JOY and allowed to stride forward to join the lead. At the 700 Metres, WONG’S SUCCESS was steadied when tightened for room inside PERFECT MATCH. Also at the 700 Metres, NASA PEARL became unbalanced after being bumped by BROWN BEAUTY which shifted out after becoming unbalanced and bumping the running rail. Near the 600 Metres, SUPER SURPRISE was hampered and carried wider by NASA PEARL (D Whyte) which shifted out when close to the heels of OSCAR PRINCE. D Whyte was told to exercise care. For some distance after the 200 Metres, WONG’S SUCCESS, which was closing the race off fairly, had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SUPER SURPRISE, O Doleuze said his mount raced wide and without cover throughout, however, travelled comfortably until after the 700 Metres where the horse was hampered and carried wider. He said after this SUPER SURPRISE did not close the race off. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SIMPLY JOY which was racing over 1800 Metres for the first time today, G Boss said his mount travelled comfortably throughout the race, however, failed to respond to his riding after straightening. He said in his opinion SIMPLY JOY did not run out the distance of today’s race at its first time of asking. SUPER SURPRISE and SIMPLY JOY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER SURPRISE and SIMPLY JOY after the race did not show any significant findings. ON SHAN BRAVE and JOLLY WONGCHOY were sent for sampling.
