SUPREME GAINS was slow to begin and then lost further ground when checked as a result of being crowded for room between GALLANT CHAMPION and CARRIZO CREEK, both of which shifted ground. DORDENMA bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. Shortly after the start, CARRIZO CREEK was steadied when crowded for room inside DISGUISE which was carried in by HORACE'S CHOICE (C K Tong) which shifted in when not clear. C K Tong was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. EYSHAL was taken back from a wide barrier in the early stages. After the 1400 Metres, HORACE'S CHOICE, which was proving difficult to settle, was bumped and carried wider by DISGUISE which at this time shifted out from behind SIGHT WINNER to improve. After this, HORACE'S CHOICE travelled wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. In the early and middle stages, due to the tempo of the race, a number of runners proved difficult to settle, the worst sufferers being HORACE'S CHOICE, GALLANT CHAMPION and SIGHT WINNER. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, SIGHT WINNER got its head up when being checked away from the heels of DISGUISE. On straightening, GREAT GUY and SIGHT WINNER bumped. Near the 200 Metres, RICE FIELD, which was commencing to close the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of HORACE'S CHOICE which was giving ground. After the 100 Metres, F Coetzee (GALLANT CHAMPION) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, SIR GALAHAD hung in. CARRIZO CREEK and SIGHT WINNER were sent for sampling.
