BUCCANEER was withdrawn on 31.5.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, BUCCANEER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASSIVE STAR and DUMBARTON ROCK were slow to begin. At the 1000 Metres, FLY ME TO THE MOON was steadied away from the heels of BEJEWELED. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SPRING SUN hung out. At the 800 Metres, GUNNER MAC was steadied when awkwardly placed between FLY ME TO THE MOON and MAGIC CHARIOT. TRULLI, which was following, was steadied in consequence. After the 800 Metres, NORDIC STAR was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside DUMBARTON ROCK. Over the concluding stages, DUMBARTON ROCK, which was closing the race off nicely, was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not ridden out right to the end of the race as it normally would be. Also over the concluding stages, STAREILLY hung out. Throughout the race, MAGIC CHARIOT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of KUNG FU, G Boss said the horse was able to lead in a manner similar to when it was successful at its most recent start. He said KUNG FU travelled comfortably when held together, however, when placed under pressure after the 400 Metres did not lengthen stride and failed to respond to his riding. He said in his opinion KUNG FU is suited by tracks with firmer footing than that of today’s track surface. KUNG FU was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. DUMBARTON ROCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KUNG FU and DUMBARTON ROCK after the race did not show any significant findings. TRULLI and BEJEWELED were sent for sampling.
