As Y T Cheng was overweight, permission was given for M Nunes to be substituted as the rider of MASTER OF SHAVERS. As the Stewards accepted Y T Cheng’s explanation for being overweight was due to tonight’s wet conditions, no penalty was imposed. Shortly after the start, SPRING SMILES was checked and MASTER OF SHAVERS crowded for room between G-ONE LEADING which shifted in and MEATH which shifted out. No action was taken. Over the final 150 Metres, UNIQUE SPEED shifted wider on the track. For the major part of the race, DECAGONAL travelled wide and without cover. After the race, O Doleuze (BOLD CHAMPION) reported at no stage of the race did his mount handle tonight’s track conditions, near the 450 Metres became unbalanced and blundered. He said after this he did not persevere in riding BOLD CHAMPION out. Also after the race, F Coetzee (G-ONE LEADING) reported his mount did not handle tonight’s track conditions and after the 200 Metres made a significant breathing noise. BOLD CHAMPION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. G-ONE LEADING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BOLD CHAMPION and G-ONE LEADING after the race did not show any significant findings. UNIQUE SPEED and KAISER’S CHOIX were sent for sampling. Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 19 June 2008) The Veterinary Officer reported that CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was this morning found to be lame in the right front foot. Before being allowed to race again, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
